For what has to be the first time ever, Dennis was NOT the goofiest part of a terra flex video. What nonsense is this?

So you can’t even disable the proximity feature? At least they didn’t show if you can in the video

Looks like it’s disabled in 4 low.

I have to think there is some way to disable it, maybe menu driven?

Wow that’s stupid. But so are some people. If this stops some distracted idiot from sideswiping my car with their stupid Jeep than I’m all for it.

I wonder if those sensors will get confused when Jeepbro puts on 12 inch wide tires with low offset wheels, and big ass flares. Will it think that big flare and tire is another object And not part of the vehicle?

Bleh, an overcooked misrepresentation of useful features. Jeep does not say that the ParkSense system will prevent you from hitting things; its function is to notify the driver of obstacles.

And I refuse to believe that they fully explored all available methods of getting the computer to allow them to back out. My wife’s Outback has Subaru’s EyeSight, and all of that stuff can easily be disabled; I’m sure it can on the JL as well.

But here, Teraflex, have a few thousand hits on your video.

I here what you are saying but I’ve known these guys shop for a long time, they are the sensationalist shop that is after a quick hit. They’ve become a really big name in quality Jeep parts. The thing that concerns me (and them) seems to be that the Jeep will autopark in certain circumstances and that its not intuitive to disable the feature, even for seasoned Jeep people.

At about 0:57 in the video, the guy says, “It says proximity warning, and it won’t let it go.” They then show the info screen in the gauge cluster, and it says AutoPark engaged. So I looked through the owner’s manual (PDF is available on Jeep’s website), and the section on AutoPark describes all the situations in which it’ll activate, and Teraflex’s situation doesn’t appear to be one of them. So is it tied to the ParkSense system? Well, the section in the owner’s manual about ParkSense talks a lot about the system’s ability to accurately show you where obstacles are, but it doesn’t at all say if ParkSense can work together with AutoPark to prevent you from backing into things. However, it does show that there is a dedicated button on the center console to disable ParkSense. Teraflex ought to say whether or not they tried pressing that button.

The Rear Cross Path Detection system is also at play, but according to the owner’s manual it should have nothing to do with that is happening in the video.

The ParkSense system has a dedicated button on the center console for enabling/disabling.

I agree with you that I suspect there is an easy way to disable this. But you had to dig into the owners manual to find it, and we still don’t know if its park sense that is the problem. I guess my point is this system is preventing the car from operating in a totally realistic scenario and its completely opaque as to how to remedy it for a regular user. If the screen simply said “check surroundings, if clear press and hold park sense and continue backing” then we wouldn’t have a problem.

Good point. In my wife’s Subaru, if you just drive through the Reverse Auto Braking, it’ll automatically disable.

That’s what I would have thought. I’m fairly certain any driver aide that is not a NHTSA mandate can be disabled and be kept off.
